Our Ethics Before Profit Policy Explained
At The CC, it's policy to put the
interests of the people and the planet first. This policy is at the
very heart of our business and it's one we take very seriously. We
don't cut corners to save money... We practice exactly what we preach.
For example, we reuse plastic bags and boxes [we never buy these items new,
but rather reuse clean ones we receive with shipments]. We also, use
biodegradable pens and 100% recycled post-consumer, chlorine-free paper in
our office. Why? Because
our goal is not just profit. Sure, we need to pay bills too, but our primary
goal is more valuable than money. Our goal is to help the consumer (i.e.
you) make informed, conscious choices. Every decision we make, no
matter how small, affects us all. Ultimately, it is up to the consumer to
dictate how business will change in the future, so we’re here to make those
healthier choices easily accessible.
There are many different definitions of cost, including the costs large
corporations prefer to "externalize" (fancy word meaning to disregard
ethical responsibilities)... those to the environment and human health. We’re not willing to increase our profit by avoiding these kinds of costs. We prefer to lose some profit today so that in the long term everybody
profits. We hope that someday all business will feel this way so that we can
guarantee our children environmental stability. We know that if
everyone took these little steps, we'd all be a lot better off. It's
worth the extra cost if you're thinking more long term, which is key to
success in most things. Sustainability... It’s a lofty goal, perhaps,
but it starts at home and we take it seriously.
So here's to a healthy
Ottawa!
